Ok y’all, I think we lost our minds. What in the world did we do?
At least that’s how it feels right now. I just want to say I am sorry I took a hiatus over summer because things have been crazy. I was focusing on starting a new business. Then when school was starting we sent our kids to the awesome private school, that took us forever to pick out mind you. And after the first day yours truly decided I wanted to homeschool.
Why in the world you say would we want to homeschool? Well our number one reason we don’t like the public-school system. Oh, but you said you did private school? Yea well we didn’t like it either. Ha we’re hard to please. No seriously though. It came down to the fact that the private school, while awesome, didn’t really align with our values. It was a catholic school which I thought I always wanted for my kids except…. drumroll please…. WE DON’T GO TO CHURCH ANYMORE. Believe me we are as religious as the next. I mean we pray over meals and we pray in the morning and at bedtime but we don’t go to church. It’s too political. >Insert scrunched face here< I detest politics in religion. But we don’t have to go into that here.
We did honestly have more than just that one reason though, I know crazy right we get pickier. My husband and myself happen to love history. Well certain kinds of history. Ok seriously we just love that history is unchangeable and we aren’t fans of schools changing said history to appease the masses. Oh my, we sound like crazies I know but hear me out. Wouldn’t you rather your child learns of all the mean, nasty things that have occurred in history no matter how horrible we think they are? Why? SO THEY DON’T REPEAT IT!! I know crazy concept.
Another reason, yes there’s still more. I miss my little ones. Not the best one, right? I should want them to learn to be independent and flourish. Oh, but I do. I just want to be a part of the flourishing. I hate that my little ones would leave me for 8 hours a day, 8 hours! When they get home, they’re wrecks. Absolute wrecks. They have meltdown after meltdown. I know I wrote that article about not wanting to let go of my littlest but I promise I have good intentions. I want to know my kids y’all. I want to learn what they like, what they don’t, where they struggle and what they excel at. And I don’t want some stranger to tell me at a parent teacher conference like last year.
Hello, we love to travel! Everywhere, whenever the fancy strikes. I do not like that we couldn’t take our kids anywhere anymore. Like they didn’t even get a fall break y’all. None. We get a 3-day holiday for thanksgiving, two weeks around Christmas, and Easter gets a week. That’s it. I know that most families don’t get any more than that. Oh, my favorite line is that we shouldn’t travel we should save that money, they’re too young for trips anyways. Pardon me, but do you write the checks in my household? If I want to travel with my family then I will. Which is why this was a problem for us and a darn good reason to pull them from that school and decide to do homeschool.
So that’s what in the world we did!
Now, don’t worry. We aren’t going to put them in little tin foil hats and keep them away from sunlight. We actually happen to like it very much! We actually decided to use a charter school program to do homeschool because we like to make sure that they stay on track with schooling. We get easily distracted, and are quite aware, so we wanted to make sure there was a source keeping us accountable with this. They are quite amazing too, we get a teacher and funds and all sorts of parent resources. I am so happy we made this decision and I highly suggest it if you’re looking into it. At least try it. What’s the worst that could happen?
I do hope you enjoyed and don’t forget to subscribe and leave me a comment with any questions or better yet if you have homeschooling resources that you love. I would love any suggestions!
