So, if I’m being completely honest two weeks ago I didn’t even know what a fidget spinner was.
I didn’t find out about fidget spinners until they started making headlines because of the choking hazard that they impose.
Of course somehow my six year old son knew what they were as soon as he heard me speaking about them. What followed was a constant battle against getting him one of course because I didn’t want him to choke on one.
I started researching more about them because I wanted to know why people even used them. Honestly, I thought a lot of it was silly. People were claiming it helped kids concentrate among other things. How could this thing, a toy at that, help someone concentrate when they were playing with it. I just didn’t get it. I said no at that point because I just thought everyone that used them just wanted a reason to be allowed to play with a toy in school.
Did you know that adults are using these at work? To me it seemed like a hoax or maybe a placebo thing but regardless, pardon me, krap. It’s a TOY!
Then one day on Pinterest I came across a tutorial on how to make a fidget spinner with legos but we didn’t have the pieces to make it. But my son was determined since I had told him we could make one out of legos. So together we figured out a way to do it, in fact we found out two ways. It’s basically one way with some slight variations though.
But, I’ll be the first to admit it when I am wrong and I am. For sure. No doubt. My son has had one for two days now and the difference in his ability to concentrate on just about anything is amazing. Normally when I talk to him he can’t focus at all and hears maybe a third of what I say.
Yesterday I was asking him to do something and he had it in his hand. Naturally my irritation was growing because he couldn’t possibly be listening to me while he played with that thing. So I asked him what I said and he repeated me almost word for word. This never happens, in fact, that question is normally followed by,” I don’t know I couldn’t understand you.”
I feel like this song should have been playing in the background. I was convinced and now I regret not jumping on board sooner. Maybe you feel like it is a hoax as well but I definitely can say that I recommend you try it if you’re considering it. In fact you probably have the pieces to make one already if you have legos.
We used a pretty basic set of legos to make these too. In fact we bought most of our legos at the lego store in those cups that you get so many for like fifteen dollars, I think that’s the price. Here you can find everything you need and it’s the online equivalent of how we buy our legos.
So without further ado…
Here’s the second one. You can see from the pictures that it’s almost identical to the one above but with just a few variations. I actually found the idea on Pinterest on another infographic but I didn’t save it. Now naturally, for the life of me I can not find it now. If you happen to come across it let me know I’d love to link it. It does look pretty similar to this one above.
I hope y’all enjoy this tutorial and if you have any comments or suggestions don’t hesitate to let me know. Have you made a fidget spinner? I’d love to see it!
Have a good one y’all and thanks for reading. Don’t forget to subscribe for updates.
