The idea of taking kids around the world might seem nightmarish. But I have some good reasons why it is a priority in our lives and why I think you should give it a try too!
Traveling the world is on almost everyone’s bucket list.
But when you have a family that seems to drop down to the bottom. For when your kids are older of course. Or maybe when you have raised them and they have moved out.
Kids have a natural need to explore everything.
When you nurture that by giving them experiences, you are helping them to develop who they are. All while learning about the world around them.
Kids don’t require fancy toys to be entertained. Giving them new experiences are just as effective in helping them grow. Not that I’m saying that toys are a bad thing, I mean entertainment for peaceful travel is a must.
The things they learn from world travel will be of greater value than that of anything you will ever teach them in a book. Let them experience the things you are trying to teach them.
Of course, your family isn’t always going to speak the language. But you would be surprised to see how well kids find a way around language barriers.
You will truly teach them to value the things that are in their lives.
By seeing other children their age and the way they live. In more poverty-stricken areas your children will be surprised to find that not everyone lives as well as they do.
Without you constantly telling them they need to be grateful for what they have they begin see it on their own. It will also help your children develop empathy for others.
In turn this will encourage them to help others.
When your children have empathy for other people they want to help them. Kids are so wonderful and have such huge hearts.
You are encouraging them to grow that and to know that it is a good quality to have. You giving them a chance to do good in the world will never be a bad thing.
Self Confidence in your children will soar.
By allowing them to experience life wit you, try new things, and develop their own person it will build their confidence so much.
Travel exposes them to a lot and pushes their comfort zones. Having you there for this will also help build a closer family bond.
You are showing them that they are capable of so much more than they thought. I don’t know about you but finding out how capable I am makes me feel as though I am on top of the world.
Imagine how that must feel for your child.
You are teaching them to value other cultures of the world.
Traveling around the world and exposing children to other cultures is a good lesson all on its own.
Why? It has become standard for Americans to travel the world with the idea that we, as Americans, are superior to everyone else.
This isn’t me saying I’m not proud to be American. Trust me, I am grateful to be a woman in a free country.
However, when you travel to a new country it should be about you learning their customs. You learning about why they do what they do. Not expecting everyone to cater to you. In your comfort zone with your native language.
A little experience goes a long way in teaching your children. Just remember that they watch you. Your children will follow your lead.
You don’t have to start out traveling with a worldwide trip. Short little weekend trips are a great way to get your feet wet. Just remember to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
What are the reasons you are considering travelling with your kiddos? I love hearing your opinions in the comments.
